March 2019

Carve your data for adaptive inference, don’t split it

21 March, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems, Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems, 3rd Floor, Entrepreneurship Centre, Indian Institute of Science
Bangalore, 560012 India

Any meaningful statistical problem consists of a model and a set of matching parameters for which decisions are required. In the classical, "textbook" paradigm, the model and this set of target parameters are assumed to be chosen independently of the data subsequently used for statistical inference (e.g., estimating the parameters). In practice, however, more often than not, data analysts examine some aspect of the data before deciding on a model and/or the target parameters. For example, in fitting multiple linear…

October 2019

Decentralized decision making with strategic users.

9 October, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems, Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems, 3rd Floor, Entrepreneurship Centre, Indian Institute of Science
Bangalore, 560012 India

Many real-world dynamic decision-making problems consist of multiple decision-makers with asymmetric information. Some examples include Markets, social learning, traffic management, autonomous vehicles, cyber-physical systems, internet of things and many more. In these systems, there are multiple decision-makers (DMs) who make some common and private observations of the 'state' of the systems with the goal to minimize their own cost (dynamic games) or total cost incurred by everybody (dynamic teams). In this talk, I will present a general sequential decomposition framework…

November 2019

An optimization approach to drift detection and clustering in time-series.

26 November, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems, Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems, 3rd Floor, Entrepreneurship Centre, Indian Institute of Science
Bangalore, 560012 India

Speaker: Alexandre Reiffers Date: 26/11/2019 Venue: Seminar Hall, RBCCPS Abstract: Recent developments in low-cost sensors, wireless network communication, and computational tools have paved the way for applications like monitoring with the high spatial and temporal resolution for example in the context of air quality. However, the reduced quality of sensing units necessitates robust drift detection and calibration schemes. The few existing methods are variants of outlier detection algorithms. We presented an optimization-based clustering algorithm that first smooths the data and then…

Pune Urban Data Exchange (PUDX) Datathon

13 December, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Pune Smart City operation Centre, PUNE

The PUDX Datathon is being organized jointly by Indian Institute of Science , IISc-Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber Physical Systems (RBCCPS) and IISc-Cisco Centre for Networked Intelligence (CNI), Pune Smart City Development Corporation (PSCDCL) with support from Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The goal of the Datathon is to develop innovative solutions based on India Urban Data Exchange (IUDX), an open source data exchange platform aimed at enabling cities to harness full potential of the enormous data being generated in our smart cities. In particular, the Datathon will be based on PUDX (Pune Urban Data Exchange) which is an instance of IUDX for Pune Smart City. The IUDX envisages the following stake holders for collaboration –…

A New Approach to Distributed Hypothesis Testing and Non-Bayesian Learning: Improved Learning Rate and Byzantine-Resilience

17 January @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Speaker: Aritra Mitra,  Purdue University Date: 17/01/2020 Venue: Seminar Hall, RBCCPS Abstract: We consider a scenario where a group of agents, each receiving partially informative private signals, aim to learn the true underlying state of the world that explains their collective observations. These agents might represent individuals in a social network interacting to solve a day-to-day decision making problem, or a team of autonomous robots deployed with the task of environmental monitoring, or even a network of processors trying to solve a…

CORNET: A Co-Simulation Middleware for Robot Networks

30 June @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Speaker: Srikrishna Acharya B. Date: 30/06/2020 Venue: Online Meeting Abstract: CORNET is a co-simulation middleware for applications involving multi-robot systems like a network of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems. Design of such systems requires knowledge of the flight dynamics of UAVs and the communication links connecting UAVs with each other or with the ground control station. Besides, UAV networks are dynamic and distinctive from other ad-hoc networks and require protocols that can adapt to high-mobility, dynamic topology and changing link quality…
