Interview Shortlisting: All applications are reviewed, and candidates are selected for the interview round based on:
1. Academic record for candidates with Master’s degree
2. Qualifying exam scores/ranks for candidates with Bachelor’s degree
Criteria for Shortlisting:
ME/MTech/MSc(Engg) qualified:
The merit criteria for shortlisting is based on 25% weightage for Undergraduate academic performance ,75% weightage for Graduate academic performance along with the cut-off for various categories(The cut-off marks may vary each academic year for every category)
GATE:
The cut-off marks for GATE in each category decides the shortlisted candidates(The cut-off marks may vary each academic year for each category)
Interview: Candidates are asked questions regarding basic engineering and mathematics topics, their academic and/or industry experience, and their plans and research preferences for PhD. The goal of the interview is to gauge the background, critical thinking capabilities, and enthusiasm of the candidates. Candidates who clear the interview round are admitted into the PhD program.
Employees of institutions and industries involved in Research and Development or Faculty Members of colleges/universities can apply for a PhD under the External Registration Program (ERP).
The required qualifications for ERP remain the same as for the regular candidates except for the requirement of qualifying in one of the national entrance tests. However, qualifying in one of the national entrance tests like CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, UGC-NET for JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF, GATE, NBHM etc., is desirable
Candidates admitted to the program must continue to remain in the same organization and place of work until the research work is completed. If the candidate is transferred or joins a new organization before the submission of the thesis, his/her registration shall be cancelled. Candidates once registered will not be permitted to retain the registration in case they go abroad unless they complete the course work and the Comprehensive Examination/General Test. Candidates shall invariably obtain prior permission from the Institute before they go abroad as part of their work
