Course Overview and Syllabus

This is a graduate level course on Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory. It will focus on Vector Spaces and Linear Maps. This course will cover theoretical topics and applied problems where the concepts of linear algebra can be used.

We will broadly cover the following topics:

  1. Vector Spaces and Linear Transformations

  2. Inner Product Spaces and Norms

  3. Orthogonality

  4. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors

  5. Singular Value Decomposition

  6. Positive Definite Matrices

Grading

  1. Assignments: 10%

  2. Quizzes (Best 4 out of 5): 10%

  3. Midterm Exams (Two): 40%

  4. Final Exam: 40%
